Defense contractor Oshkosh Corp. has received an order from the Israeli Ministry of Defense for dozens of armored vehicles.
The sales are expected to keep the company’s production line of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTV) going into 2025, past the shutdown that was planned for late 2024.
The Israelis purchased a total of 75 JLTVs through foreign military sales and dozens more through direct commercial sales, Oshkosh Corp. said in a statement late last week.
The company has worked with the Israeli Ministry of Defense on multiple programs for more than a decade, Vice President Tim Beck said in the statement.
In November, Oshkosh Corp. received a $208 million order from the U.S. Army for additional JLTVs, trailers and associated kits, as well as a $160 million order for JLTVs for international allies including Mongolia, Romania, North Macedonia, Slovenia, and Slovakia.
Oshkosh Corp. was scheduled to cease making JLTVS for the U.S. Army by the end of 2024 after last February it lost the $9.7 billion contract to AM General of South Bend, Indiana.
Since 2015, the company has made more than 20,000 of the vehicles, considered the replacement for the military’s fleet of Humvee troop carriers.
The JLTV is capable of serving as a mobile command center in addition to having greater protection, according to the company. It is smaller than another armored vehicle that Oshkosh designed and built for the war in Afghanistan in one of the defense industry's most dramatic buildups since World War II.
Last year, JLTV sales were about $1 billion. That's about 12% of Oshkosh Corp.'s $8.3 billion annual sales and half of its annual defense business.
