San Angelo Economic Development Corp. notes achievements of 2019 - Standard-Times

The past 12 months were excellent for the City of San Angelo Development Corporation. Our strategic direction involves planes, trains and automobiles. 

While we made significant progress in those areas, we also assisted businesses of all sizes to expand and retain their businesses, and began work on expanding our own industrial park to accommodate growth. 

Here is a list of some of our major accomplishments: 

1. Completed a land use management study concerning the potential for a business/industrial park at San Angelo Regional Airport.
2. Cleared 14 acres of land across from the San Angelo Regional Airport on Knickerbocker to help beautify our airport entrance/exit.
3. Acquired 183.5 acres for a rail port and began work on that project. This prepares way for the opening of a new rail freight corridor on the South Orient line.
4. Continued participation in efforts for Interstates 27 and 14.
5. Completed a comprehensive housing study that is helping to create new construction to meet our housing needs at all income levels.
6. Participated in a matching grant of $167,000 for a construction trades training program at Howard College.
7. Executed 7 performance agreements to help businesses of all sizes to expand.
8. Executed 11 tax increment reinvestment zone (TIRZ) grants to help businesses improve their facilities.
9. Partnered with the county and state to provide funding for a Goodfellow AFB dining facility expansion.
10. Provided partial funding for the Chadbourne Streetscape project.
11. Began work on the expansion of the San Angelo Industrial Park.
12. Partnered with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce to create high paying jobs, diversifying the economy, enhancing infrastructure, and bringing $216 million of capital investment and economic yield to San Angelo. 

Our overall goal is to help make San Angelo the kind of community where people want to work and live.
