Charleston, W. Va (WVVA) - An official with Lab Corp says that West Virginia has been able to make many right decisions in the battle against COVID-19.
Dr. Brian Caveney, Head of Diagnostics at the Burlington, North Carolina based company says that W. Va. is a good model for the rest of the country in its fight against the pandemic.
Dr. Caveney said that only two percent of tests for the coronavirus were positive in the Mountain state, whereas sixteen percent is the current national average.
Dr. Caveney praised the COVID-19 response team assembled by Gov. Jim Justic.
The West Virginia DHHR and the West Virginia National Guard have teamed up with Lab Corps to administer tests and reduce the amount of time needed to get results.
Dr. Caveney said that ever since Lab Corps teamed up with the W. Va. DHHR and National Guard, over 20,000 testes have been performed and that the company is supporting hospitals and labs in the fight against COVID-19.
Dr. Caveney is an Elm Grove, W. Va. native and received his medical and law degrees from WVU.
