Automatic Spring Products Corp. promotes CFO to president - grbj.com

A Grand Haven manufacturer is elevating its CFO to the role of president and CFO.

Grand Haven-based Automatic Spring Products Corp. (ASPC) — a technology-focused, high-volume manufacturer of custom-designed springs, wire forms, flat springs, stampings and assemblies — said Tuesday, Nov. 9, it is elevating CFO Scott Zylstra to the role of president and CFO to allow longtime President and CEO Steve Moreland to focus exclusively on the strategic future of the company.

In his new role, Zylstra will add responsibilities for leading the day-to-day operations to his existing financial duties at ASPC. This will enable Moreland to concentrate on the company’s future from the standpoint of technology, products, processes, customers and markets to enhance long-term profitability. Moreland will remain CEO and leverage his competitive market knowledge and technical expertise on growth opportunities.

ASPC has more than 350 employees working in plants in Grand Haven and Monterrey, Mexico.

“Scott has excellent business expertise, combined with great people skills that will enable him to focus on developing our people and building great teams,” Moreland said. “Scott has a positive can-do leadership style that focuses on planning, accountability and results. I am pleased he has accepted this new challenge to help take ASPC to our next level of growth and excellence.”

Zylstra brought more than two decades of leadership in finance and manufacturing to ASPC when he joined in 2019 as CFO. During his time with ASPC, he led the company’s finance and administrative business segments and worked with manufacturing on behalf of some of ASPC’s key customers on projects that needed improvement.

Prior to joining ASPC, Zylstra spent nearly 14 years at Cascade Engineering, where he held roles of increasing responsibility in finance and manufacturing. A global company headquartered in Cascade Township, Cascade Engineering has more than 1,900 employees serving customers in a wide variety of markets, including automotive, commercial truck and bus, solid waste and recycling, furniture and material handling.

Prior to Cascade Engineering, Zylstra spent more than a decade with Johnson Controls, a publicly traded technology and industrial leader with more than 2,000 locations worldwide. At Johnson Controls, Zylstra held finance roles in sales, operations, purchasing and product development.

“I am truly honored to be stepping into an expanded role with ASPC and to be joining this partnership of leadership that will enable us to position the company for continued success,” Zylstra said. “This opportunity excites me as it will allow me to get back to the operational side of the business. I love the work I do in finance, which is also critical to our company’s success. My new role with ASPC blends the best of both worlds — operations and finance.

“I truly share Steve’s passion for manufacturing, for people and for family-owned businesses. Working together with our 350-plus employees, we will execute the vision he continues to build for the company so we can continue to grow profitably.”
