While climate neutral, the Torslanda plant continues to try and cut energy usage. In 2020, the company's efforts saved nearly 7,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) which the company says is enough to power more than 450 family homes in Sweden. Not so much for the U.S., where the average home uses 10,649 kWh, but it could power a little more than one home in Hawaii. Still, it's a step in the right direction.
The $31 million, 170,000-square-foot factory will complement Magna’s current facility in Spartanburg County that opened in 2005 and has more than 1,000 employees. The plant’s biggest local client is BMW, which operates a factory in Greer, South Carolina.
Mondelez — which owns major snack brands including Oreo, belVita, Toblerone, Sour Patch Kids, and Trident — said the acquisition expands its portfolio to include pastry products and significantly boosts its European presence. Chipita’s key brands include 7Days, Chipicao, and Fineti.
