Big Rivers Electric Corp. moving to Owensboro, bringing $100M economic impact - The Owensboro Times

Big Rivers Electric Corp. is moving its corporate headquarters from Henderson to Owensboro.

The announcement came Wednesday from the City of Owensboro, Daviess County Fiscal Court and Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation.

The Big Rivers headquarters will create an annual economic impact of over $100 million for the Greater Owensboro region. Big Rivers headquarters operation employs 120 people with an annual payroll of $14 million. The new headquarters location will be constructed at 700 W. 2nd St.

“It is not often that our community can be blessed with the opportunity to welcome such a fabulous corporate citizen like Big Rivers and their associates to the City of Owensboro in Daviess County,” said Mayor Tom Watson.

Company leadership is hopeful the project will be complete within 18-24 months.

“We are very excited about the opportunities ahead for Big Rivers in the Owensboro community,” said Bob Berry, President and CEO. “I want to thank Mayor Watson, City Manager Nate Pagan and GOEDC President and CEO Brittaney Johnson, without these three individuals this opportunity would not have been possible. They were professional throughout the decision-making process and we look forward to relocating to this growing and progressive community.”

The capital investment in building the new headquarters operation is estimated at $10 million.

“The sizeable investment Big Rivers will make in downtown Owensboro is appreciated,” City Manager Nate Pagan said.

Daviess County Judge-Executive Al Mattingly said he looks forward to Big Rivers’ success for years to come.

“Their investment, ability to create quality, good-paying jobs for Daviess County residents and those throughout the Greater Owensboro region will be an economic boost to our community,” he said.

Big Rivers Electric Corporation is a member-owned, not-for-profit, generation and transmission cooperative (G&T) currently headquartered in Henderson, Kentucky. TheyWe provide wholesale electric power and services to three distribution cooperative members across 22 counties in western Kentucky.

The member cooperatives are Jackson Purchase Energy Corporation, Kenergy Corporation, and Meade County Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation. The three member-owners of Big Rivers serve more than 118,000 members.
