New ambulance arrived today at Ardsley Secor Ambulance Corp - Patch.com

GREAT NEWS - NEW AMBULANCE, PAID FOR BY A GRANT, ARRIVED AT ARDSLEY SECOR AMBULANCE CORP HQ TODAY-- A BEAUTIFUL AND NEEDED AMBULANCE THAT WILL SAVE LIVES
Earlier today I stopped off at the Ardsley Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps to see the new ambulance that arrived today and to thank the volunteers for their hard work and dedicated service.. It was exciting because about two years ago Ardsley Mayor Nancy Kaboolian, Hugh McAuley of our Veterans Committee and I met with State Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins asking the Senator to help the Corp obtain a grant to pay for the ambulance. Senator Cousins was very supportive.

The new ambulance that I saw today is a beautiful Ford F450 with the latest safety and code updates plus all-wheel drive. It's been more than ten years since ASVAC got a new ambulance, and this one will serve our community well for at least the next decade.

This gift of life saving equipment would not have been possible without our Village, Town and State officials banding together to support an organization that provides 24x7 EMS care for the Ardsley School District and Mutual Aid for neighboring communities. It took about two years from the first meeting to discuss the urgent need followed by completing the grant proposal, to finally be awarded the funds, and to build the Ambulance. Every official recognized the need, asked their staff to provide help and guidance throughout the process, and to finally see this project through.

Responding to more than 700 emergencies every year the all-volunteer Ardsley-Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps. is extremely grateful for a modern vehicle which carries up to two patients at a time with up to date lifesaving equipment. ASVAC members dedicate more than 75 hours a year in training and responses, often on a moment's notice. Since 1962 they have been your neighbors helping neighbors. ASVAC is an independent 501c3 corporation which is self-funded and does not benefit from local tax dollars.

ASVAC is looking for new local heroes and no experience is necessary. As a member you will receive all of your training in-house including CPR, First Aid, EMR or EMT training if you wish, and Emergency Vehicle Operations. You will be paid in kindness with the satisfaction of giving back to your community. You will be eligible for a 10% discount on your local property taxes after 5 years of active service. If you want to Drive their Company Car please go to www.ASVAC.org and complete the application. I plan to reach out to state lawmakers and ask them to authorize local governments to offer tax breaks to volunteers who put in a certain number of hours after one year of service. We need to do more to help volunteer Ambulance Corps attract and keep members.
