Workforce Development Center to host virtual hiring event for hospitality industry - WDIO

On Monday, the Workforce Development Center in Duluth is hosting a virtual hiring event for the Northland's hospitality industry.

“It's an interactive event. It's a chance at the beginning to kind of hear from each of the employers, hear about what jobs they are hiring for, what they are looking for, what it’s like to work for them," Elena Foshay, Director of Workforce Development said.

Bluefin Bay, Park Point Marina and Grandma's restaurant will be participating in the virtual hiring event.

“As more and more people are either entering into the market for the first time or getting back into it, we'd love to talk to them,” Tony Bronson, Director of Business Development at Grandma’s said.

According to Bronson, Grandma’s is hiring for a variety of positions, including hosts, servers, cooks and more.

“For whoever is out there looking for a job, I think that we've got something that can match up with your skill set and your passion,” Bronson said.

In addition to discussing passions, businesses plan to discuss COVID-19 protocol.

“We want to make sure that people feel very safe when they come into our places as guests, but we also want to show people tomorrow that we want to make sure that our staff is just as safe and just as taken care of,” Bronson said.

Even though summer is coming to a close, leaders in the hospitality industry say fall still brings a great deal of tourism to the Twin Ports.

“All of these employers are actively hiring right now and they really would love to talk to some job seekers who are looking for work,” Foshay said.

The virtual hiring event will be held Monday at 10:30am. Participants should register ahead of time. They can do so here.
