The manufacturing conglomerate reported its 2020 second-quarter financial results and provided an update on production forecasts for its respirators that have become a crucial staple of the effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 3M produced nearly 800 million respirators in the first half of 2020, with about half of them distributed in the U.S., primarily to healthcare professionals and FEMA.

Dr. Prasad Akella, CEO and founder of Drishti and one of the pioneers of cobot technology at General Motors, sat down with Thomas Insights to discuss how AI, machine learning, and advanced robotics will safely amplify workers' capabilities while still enhancing their value within manufacturing facilities. 

Ford recently unveiled its Mustang Mach-E 1400, an all-electric prototype that the company is utilizing to demonstrate the performance potential of electrically powered supercars. The design team and RTR took advantage of the tools Ford typically uses for race cars and production programs.

In a press release issued by Ford, Ron Heiser, chief program engineer for the Mustang Mach-E program, stated, “Now is the perfect time to leverage electric technology, learn from it, and apply it to our lineup.”

As the largest meat producer in the United States, Tyson Foods has been intensely challenged to keep its factory employees safe while maintaining high production levels. 

Lucid Motors announced that its new luxury sedan, the Lucid Air, which will compete with the Tesla Model S, will include robust advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) on standard models. Most notably, the DreamDrive platform will include a driver monitoring system as well as a sensor suite of high-resolution lidar. 

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said his vehicles don't need lidar because other sensors, like the camera and radar, provide adequate object detection. According to Reuters, Musk went as far as to say that using lidar was "a fool's errand."
