1. Tesla Officially Selects Texas for New Gigafactory
After months of negotiations and narrowing the location of the next Gigafactory down to either Austin, Texas, or Tulsa, Oklahoma, Tesla finally confirmed its selection of Texas for the new plant. Gigafactory Texas will be Tesla's largest auto assembly facility in the world and is expected to create at least 5,000 new jobs.
2. 2020 Plant-based Protein Investments Already Doubled 2019 Records [Report]
Report researchers found that the first six months of 2020 saw more than $1.1 billion of venture investments pumped into alternative proteins — already more than doubling 2019’s full-year total of $534 million. FAIRR noted several recent factors helping the plant-based market, including public concern over a possible link between meat production and COVID-19 and African Swine Fever, along with a sharp drop in China’s pork consumption.

7. ISM Survey Indicates 76% of Firms Reporting Reduced Revenue Targets [Report]
The vast majority of the 676 respondents, most of whom were U.S.-based, indicated that their product demand had decreased by an average 15%. Overall, ISM notes, 97% of organizations surveyed said their supply chain had been impacted by COVID-19.
8. How Manufacturers Are Keeping Up with the Rise of Baking
Most people haven’t forgotten the fear of the initial days of COVID-19 lockdowns when many have collectively turned to their ovens for solace. This is not unique to the current pandemic, the LA Times reports. People often turn to baking as a comfort activity during uncertain times, like that of 9/11, another tragedy when baking sales spiked. Although the activity is soothing consumers, the demand became taxing on manufacturers. Keeping up is solely a result of innovations and ingenuity in supply chains.
9. Google Balloons Drop Internet Access on Africa
Google's sister company, Loon, selected Kenya as its next location to launch a fleet of 35 solar-powered, high-altitude balloons to deliver 4G internet access to about 31,000 square miles, about the equivalent of the state of South Carolina.
10. How the Dell Supply Chain Stays Competitive with Tech Giants
Despite competing with industry giants like Google and Apple, Dell still continues to dominate in the tech space, likely because of its transformative supply chain execution.
