An effort is underway to revive the now dormant Mount Olive Community Development Corp.
The organization surfaced about a decade ago through efforts of the late former mayor, Ruff Huggins. Its goal was to serve as a booster in economic development.
Town Manager Charles Brown said the current effort to revive it will get further review at an upcoming meeting between himself, town Commissioner Barbara Kornegay and former Southern Bank CEO Grey Morgan.
“We have some ideas and there are funds out there to help in certain areas, including neighborhood revitalization. There are a lot of things we could be doing, and we just need to get some of our leaders involved,” Brown said.
Initially, Brown said that he and Commissioner Kornegay will meet with Morgan, who has agreed to serve on a committee. He said others have also committed.
“This is something that really needs to be revived and we need a group of committed, active committee members,” Brown said.
Brown is hopeful a full committee can be put in place and have a meeting before the end of this month. One of the major concerns is neighborhood revitalization, he said.
